A brief history of Fourways day Nursery

The nursery first opened their doors on Friday 17th June 1994; it was originally opened and run by the Woman’s Royal Voluntary Service as a children’s centre headed by Dot Jordan and Alison Taylor, it ran as playgroup and a parent and toddler group.

Gill Terry joined the children’s centre in 1995 working alongside Dot with the younger children, whilst also running a before and after school club and holiday playscheme for children of school age. Alison left the children’s centre in 1997 and it was then jointly run by Dot and Gill successfully until in 2000 WRVS decided that they were to close all children’s projects. Gill and Dot both took the decision to buy the business and maintain the much needed facilities the centre offered.

The WRVS children’s centre became Fourways Children’s Centre and three years later in 2003, after securing funding to become a neighbourhood nursery and with the promise of a new build, Fourways Children’s Centre was looking for a temporary new home. At this point Dot Jordan decided that she had fulfilled her ambition and decided to leave the setting.

Eventually the nursery ended up in a porta cabin in St James School where Gill continued to provide quality care whilst a new building was being built. The purpose built Nursery was completed in 2004 and the nursery was able to extend its care to children under two years of age. After 3 years of successful business Gill decided to retire and sell the nursery. Amanda Preece, who has a long history of running nurseries - the latest being Hereford Technical College Nursery and Kiddi caru in Malvern, bought the nursery and has made many improvements to the setting which remains a busy popular day nursery under her leadership. Amanda continues to drive the business forward with 21 staff who are all Level 3 qualified.

Fourways Day Nursery Ltd is proud to be members of the National Day Nurseries Association. A charitable organisation, dedicated to improving child care across the UK.
